- Five players from Kawardha won 3 gold and 2 silver medals in the national competition.
Deputy Chief Minister and MLA of Kawardha, Shri Vijay Sharma, met with the players from Kawardha who brought glory to the state with their outstanding performances at the 31st National Sub-Junior Baseball Boys and Girls Championship held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, at his residence office in Kawardha and extended his best wishes and wished them a bright future.
Five players from Prayas Sports Academy, Kawardha, were selected for the Chhattisgarh team for the national championship, held from May 24th to 29th under the auspices of the Amateur Baseball Federation of India. These included Chandresh Korram, Pankaj Meravi, and Shubham Sen from the boys category, and Chandni Sahu and Jayshree Ghritalhare from the girls category. The Chhattisgarh boys’ team performed brilliantly in the competition, winning the gold medal, while the girls’ team brought glory to the state by winning the silver medal.

Congratulating the players, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that it is a matter of pride for the entire state that players from rural areas have excelled at the national level. He stated that the state government is continuously striving to promote sports talent and provide them with better opportunities. This success of the players will serve as an inspiration for future generations.
Academy coach Raja Joshi explained that the players were selected based on their outstanding performance in the state-level competition. During the national competition, the Chhattisgarh boys’ team defeated strong teams like Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Delhi, and won the national title by defeating Maharashtra 6-2 in the final. Chandresh Korram played a key role in the team’s victory by hitting a brilliant home run. He hit three home runs throughout the tournament.

In the girls’ category, the Chhattisgarh team defeated Delhi, Telangana, and host Odisha to reach the final. Although the team lost to Maharashtra in the final, the players performed brilliantly and won the silver medal. Chandni Sahu and Jayshree Ghritalhare played a significant role in the team’s success. This national achievement by the players has sparked an atmosphere of excitement among sports lovers, parents, and residents of the district. Everyone congratulated the players and their coaches and wished them further success in the future.
