Champaran holds special significance for the Vaishnav sect, especially for devotees from Gujarat. Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya is considered the founder of the Pushtimarg (the path of Pushtimarg), and his followers are numerous in Gujarat. For the Vaishnav community, associated with devotion to Shrinathji and Krishna, Champaran is considered a pilgrimage site. This is why large numbers of devotees from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and other states across the country visit the place for darshan and worship. Many Vaishnav families consider it highly auspicious to visit Champaran Dham at least once in their lifetime.

The story surrounding the birth of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya is deeply fascinating and full of faith. According to legend, his parents set out on a pilgrimage from South India to Kashi. At that time, the country was experiencing political instability and invasions. During their journey, they arrived in the present-day Champaran region, a region of dense forests and a peaceful environment. It was there that his mother went into labor, and the child was born under a Shami tree. Legend has it that the child appeared motionless at birth, so the parents, believing it to be God’s will, left him there in a safe place. Later that night, they had a vision of Lord Krishna in their dream, and were told that the child was a divine being. When they returned, they saw the child safely surrounded by a circle of fire. This child later became famous as Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya and gave a new direction to the Bhakti movement.

Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya founded the “Pushtimarg” (the path of devotion) within the Vaishnava devotional tradition. His teachings embody the message of love, service, dedication, and unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna. He showed society the path of simple devotion and humanity. This is why Champarany Dham is still considered a highly significant pilgrimage site for followers of the Vaishnava sect.

The name Champaranya also has a historical origin. It is said that in ancient times, this area was covered with Champa trees, which is why it was named “Champaranya.” Even today, the green and serene environment here provides devotees with a sense of spiritual peace.
