- ‘Use of Nano DAP and Nano Urea is saving the fertility of the land, diversification has changed the fortunes’
The winds of modern and scientific farming are now sweeping through remote villages of Chhattisgarh. Kalendra Kumeti, a progressive farmer from Keralapal village, provides a living example of this. Once struggling with financial constraints and rising costs due to traditional farming, Kalendra has today, through his hard work, innovation, and scientific approach, not only become self-reliant but also become a source of inspiration for youth and farmers across the region.
- The journey from struggle to success
Until a few years ago, Kalendra Kumeti, like other farmers, was practicing traditional farming. Costs were rising steadily, and production was declining, making it difficult to sustain his family. But instead of giving up, he decided to try something different. He participated in training programs organized by the Agriculture Department and learned the intricacies of modern agricultural techniques.
- Focus on nanotechnology and integrated agriculture
The biggest secret of Kalendra’s success was choosing scientific alternatives instead of the uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers. He explained that the use of Nano DAP and Nano Urea is the best for crop production. This not only provides abundant nutrition to the crops but also does not destroy the natural fertility of the soil.
Furthermore, he adopted integrated farming to increase his income. Along with traditional crops like paddy and wheat, he now also cultivates vegetables, fruit plants, animal husbandry, fish farming, and horticulture.
- Priority given to water conservation and soil testing
Kalendra uses a drip irrigation system on his fields to ensure every drop of water is used efficiently. This significantly saves water and provides the plants with the moisture they need. He regularly has his fields soil tested to ensure he applies fertilizers to the nutrients the soil lacks.
- ‘Positive change in the village’
Kalendra’s success has transformed the village of Keralapal. Inspired by him, other farmers in the village are now adopting modern agricultural techniques. Kalendra himself takes the initiative to share his experience and knowledge with fellow farmers. Kalendra Kumeti said that if farming is done with a scientific approach, new technology, and a willingness to learn, rather than traditional methods, it can become a highly profitable business rather than a loss-making one. Agriculture department officials have also praised Kalendra’s passion and foresight, who is presenting a new picture of the prosperous farmer of Chhattisgarh today.
