Manisha Nagesh became self-reliant by cultivating vegetables.

  • Government schemes and hard work changed lives

Through determination, persistent hard work, and by taking advantage of government schemes, Mrs. Manisha Nagesh, a progressive woman farmer from Tudparas village in Dantewada district, has set an inspiring example of self-reliance. She has strengthened her family’s financial situation by making vegetable production a strong source of livelihood.

  • Taking forward the family initiative

About two years ago, her family began vegetable production on one hectare of land. Initially, this work was done by her mother-in-law, but now Manisha herself takes charge. With the guidance and support of the Horticulture Department, she has grown the farming business and turned it into a sustainable source of income.

  • Production of various vegetables, increased income

Manisha cultivates a variety of vegetables on her farm, including tomatoes, eggplant, ridge gourd, ridge gourd, bitter gourd, and bananas. Selling these vegetables provides her with a regular income. She says this income is helping her fund her children’s education and meet the family’s needs.

  • Solar irrigation and natural farming promoted

To facilitate farming, she obtained a government-aided solar-powered borewell. She irrigates her crops through this. To reduce costs and protect the environment, she has adopted natural mulching instead of polyethylene mulching. Spreading paravat on the field helps maintain moisture, reduces weed growth, and reduces the need for labor.

  • New direction from government schemes

Manisha says that the schemes run by the Agriculture and Horticulture Department are extremely beneficial for farmers. Grafted tomato and eggplant plants are provided under the National Agricultural Development Scheme. The National Horticulture Mission encourages the cultivation of banana, papaya, and other fruit plants. Furthermore, schemes like the State-Funded Development Scheme and the Oil Palm Mission also help increase farmers’ incomes.

  • Balancing household and farming

Along with her household responsibilities, Manisha devotes time to her farm every morning and evening. She believes that regular care and hard work can yield excellent results in farming. Her dedication has resulted in a good income from farming and a self-sufficient life.

  • An inspiration for other farmers and women

Today, Mrs. Manisha Nagesh has established herself as a successful vegetable farmer in her area. She believes that if farmers adopt modern techniques and take advantage of government schemes, even small plots of land can generate substantial income. Her success has become a source of inspiration for rural women and farmers.

  • Steps towards self-reliance

Manisha Nagesh’s success demonstrates that through hard work, proper guidance, and effective use of government schemes, rural women can become economically empowered. Her achievement is an excellent example of women’s empowerment, natural farming, and a self-reliant rural economy.
