With the aim of addressing the problem of malnutrition and strengthening public health in the state, Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade has called for the planting of “Suposhan Vrikshdrumunga” (a nutritious tree) as a mass movement. She has appealed to all public representatives, village panchayats, and urban bodies of the state to spread the message of “Munga in every home, nutrition in every home” by planting Moringa (drumstick) saplings on a large scale during the rainy season.
Minister Smt. Rajwade stated in her letter that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the Women and Child Development Department has envisioned planting “Suposhan Vrikshdrumunga” (a nutritious tree) in all Anganwadi centers and beneficiaries’ homes to make the state well-nourished. She explained that Moringa is a highly nutritious and multi-purpose plant, its leaves, pods, and other parts are rich in nutrients. It is rich in many essential nutrients, including protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C. Due to its nutritional value, it is also known as the “Mother Tree.”
The letter states that regular consumption of moringa helps improve the nutritional status of children, women, and other family members. It provides essential nutrients and also helps prevent problems like anemia. Mrs. Rajwade urged all public representatives to ensure the planting of moringa plants during the rainy season around water sources, in village panchayat premises, public places, and in the homes of beneficiaries. She stated that this campaign, driven by public participation, will prove to be an important initiative towards nutrition in the state and will also help raise awareness about nutritious food and health. She appealed to all citizens to actively participate in this campaign and contribute to the creation of a “nourished Chhattisgarh.”
