A unique display of administrative activism and sensitivity was witnessed on Wednesday in the Baiga region, nestled among dense forests and inaccessible hills, when Mr. Sonmani Bora, Principal Secretary of the Tribal Welfare Department, personally visited the remote Baiga villages of the Kota development block. He not only examined the ground reality of government schemes, but also sat among Baiga families, listening to their problems, and learned about the actual benefits of the schemes.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora visited the Baiga-dominated villages of Shivtarai and Nevsa and reviewed the progress of the PM Janman Yojana, Dharti Aba Abhiyan, Tribal Pride Festival, PVTG Digital Survey, and Good Governance Festival. Reaching the remote Baigapara in the Achanakmar region, he interacted directly with the villagers. Many villagers witnessed a senior official visiting their homes for the first time.
In Shivtarai, the Principal Secretary personally conducted a digital survey of a Tiharu Baiga family using the “Survey Setu” app. He gathered detailed information about the family’s livelihood, housing, health facilities, and access to government schemes. During the conversation, he gave clear instructions to officials to ensure that no eligible PVTG family is left out of government schemes.
The most significant event of the tour occurred in Nevsa village, where the Principal Secretary, along with a technical team, drilled the road to check its quality under the PM Janman Yojana. Samples of the road’s thickness and construction materials were taken. This link road, located approximately three and a half kilometers from the Shivtarai-Achanakmar main road, has brought about a significant change in the lives of Baiga families. Villagers reported that while they previously had to walk for hours during the rainy season, access to the village has now become easier.

During the visit, the Principal Secretary also inspected the mobile medical unit that had arrived in the village. He asked the members of the Baiga community how much they were benefiting from the health vehicle. The villagers explained that primary treatment and testing were now available in the village itself. Following this, the Principal Secretary directed the medical unit to regularly visit the villages.
The Principal Secretary also inspected the Adivasi Bal Ashram in Nevsa. He expressed deep displeasure at the extremely poor condition of the Ashram premises, toilets, and sanitation. He ordered disciplinary action against the hostel warden on the spot. He stated that the new academic session is about to begin, and providing a better environment for the students is the administration’s primary responsibility. He also directed that drinking water, electricity, sanitation, and repairs be completed in a timely manner.
Subsequently, at a review meeting held at the District Panchayat, Kota, the Principal Secretary inquired about the progress of the PVTG digital survey. Officials reported that approximately 90 percent of the survey work had been completed. He directed that the survey be completed 100 percent by May 30th.
During the meeting, the Principal Secretary stated that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister are extremely sensitive to the development of Specially Backward Tribes. Campaigns like PM Janman and Dharti Aba are not merely aimed at implementing schemes, but also at integrating families living in remote forest areas into the mainstream with dignity. He also emphasized the need to promote skill development, self-employment, and livelihood-based activities for PVTG families.
