The 135th edition of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s popular program “Mann Ki Baat” was telecast on Sunday. It was a moment of pride and honor for the town of Byawra in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, when Prime Minister Shri Modi mentioned the ‘Plastic Free Campaign’ going on in Byawra in ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Prime Minister Shri Modi expressed his appreciation to everyone for this exemplary effort by Beawara ki sisters and environmentalist organizations in connection with social concerns. Prime Minister Shri Modi termed the campaign as an excellent example of ‘Social Transformation through Public Participation’ and ‘Waste to Wealth’ and described it as an inspiration for the entire country.

Prime Minister Shri Modi said in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ that he got an opportunity to know about some sisters of Byawra in Rajgarh district, who have resolved to remove the plastic waste spread around them . He didn’t wait for anyone else to help him and for any change, but he himself went ahead and started collecting plastic waste and bottom bottles from all over the city. Soon this initiative became a mass movement. Collected plastics are being recycled and used to beautify the city’s public spaces. During the past few months, hundreds of kilos of plastic have been recycled here, which used to spread pollution in the city, today it is contributing significantly to the beauty of the city due to the efforts of these sisters. Prime Minister Shri Modi also congratulated and wished all the sisters and all the friends associated with this campaign for their social and inspirational work. The Prime Minister’s mention of a campaign like ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on a national platform is a moment of pride for the entire Rajgarh district and Madhya Pradesh. This achievement shows that when a society resolves to transform itself, even a small effort becomes a national identity and a source of inspiration for the entire country.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed happiness on social media ‘X’ and said that Prime Minister Shri Modi in his address appreciated all the sisters of Byawra of Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh who are preparing eco-bricks by recycling plastic waste. This admirable initiative is an inspiring example in the direction of women’s self-reliance along with environmental protection. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Prime Minister Shri Modi has also urged the countrymen to take Ganesha idols made of clay in the upcoming Ganesh festival, so that along with our faith, the resolve to protect the environment will also be strengthened.

  • After all, what is this campaign?

Under the leadership of Mr. Anil Kushwaha, Convenor of Byawara Ki Paryaran Premi Sanstha, eco-bricks are being prepared by combining single-use plastic and polythene collected from houses in the city for the past several months. Benches, decorative structures, garden furniture and other useful materials are being manufactured from these eco bricks for parks and public places. This initiative is turning plastic waste into a multi-use resource by realizing the concept of ‘Waste to Value’. He said that the biggest strength of the campaign is public participation. Here all the housewives of the city are collecting the polythene from their homes separately, the businessmen are handing over the plastic of their establishments to this organization and the youth of the city are joining this mission of environmental protection by spending their time every day. The organization has established plastic banks and bottle banks in the city, where citizens can easily deposit plastics. The new generation is also being inspired to protect the environment by conducting awareness programs in the schools of the city.

Mr. Tarun Sen, a member of the organization, says that at present a team of 40 to 50 youths and women are volunteering daily in the campaign. So far more than 2 quintals of plastic have been converted into eco bricks and used in different places of the city. The cooperation of local traders and citizens is also increasing day by day, making the campaign a widespread mass movement.

By joining this innovative initiative, Municipality Byawara has also expressed its intention to use Eco-Bricks products more in public places in the future.
