Over 27,000 Saplings Planted on World Environment Day: A Step Towards Environmental Awareness and Greener Tomorrow

Community Tree Plantation Drives and Drawing Competitions Foster Environmental Consciousness in PEKB and PCB Coal Blocks

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) undertook a large-scale community tree plantation initiative in the coal-rich region of Sarguja district. Organized at the PEKB (Parsa East and Kente Basen) and PCB (Parsa Coal Block) mines located in Udaipur block, the drive saw the planting of over 27,220 saplings — 26,120 in PEKB and 2,100 in PCB — marking a meaningful step toward long-term environmental sustainability and increasing green cover.

The plantation campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, contractors, and the extended community. The initiative went beyond a symbolic gesture — it emerged as a collective commitment to safeguard nature and promote ecological balance.

In the days leading up to the plantation event, the Environment and CSR departments jointly organized drawing competitions in six villages — Parsa, Salhi, Basen, Tara, Janardanpur, and Fattepur — on the theme “Eliminating Plastic Pollution Globally.” Close to 400 students from Classes 1 to 8 participated across two categories (Classes 1–5 and 6–8). Winners in each village received prizes for first, second, and third positions in both categories.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Avinash Kumar from the Environment Department encouraged the young participants, stating,
“Protecting the environment is not a one-day affair. It must become an integral part of our mindset and daily life.”

The series of activities culminated with the plantation drive on Thursday, reinforcing the message that a cleaner, greener, and plastic-free future is possible through collective action.

As part of its broader community development efforts in the region, RRVUNL has been addressing key infrastructural needs across 14 villages near the mines. These include renovation of government schools, implementation of BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) painting, construction of additional classrooms and permanent toilets, road development, and aesthetic improvements of public waiting areas.

In its pursuit of ecological balance, RRVUNL has also afforested over 1,569,000 saplings on more than 1,200 acres of reclaimed mining land, further cementing its commitment to environmental restoration and community well-being.
