Take all necessary steps to prevent road accidents: Chief Secretary

  • Instructions for regular monitoring of black spots, EV charging stations installed at 150 locations in the state

Chief Secretary Mr. Vikassheel has given clear instructions to departmental officials to ensure all appropriate and concrete action is taken to prevent road accidents in the state. The Chief Secretary was addressing officials at a meeting on road safety held at the Secretariat today.  

  • Special emphasis was placed on improving black spots.

The Chief Secretary said that black spots identified as prone to road accidents should be regularly monitored and necessary repairs should be carried out immediately. He directed officials from the National Highways and Public Works Departments to coordinate and improve road conditions to eliminate the risk of accidents.
 

  • Review of Supreme Court and Central Government Plans

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the State Road Safety Fund and the guidelines issued by the Honorable Supreme Court in the Phalodi and Ranga Reddy road accident cases. Information was also sought on the progress of the PM Relief Scheme and PM e-Drive Scheme. The Chief Secretary directed the government to ensure 100% compliance with the directives of the Supreme Court’s Committee on Road Safety. The implementation of the SOPs related to road accident rescue issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, was also reviewed.  

  • Instructions to increase EV charging stations

The Chief Secretary called for expediting the installation of charging stations for e-vehicles under the PM e-Drive scheme. He directed the Transport Department to immediately establish e-charging stations at designated locations. Officials stated that EV charging stations have been installed at 150 locations in the state so far. These stations are also subsidized under the PM e-Drive scheme. 

  • The Chief Secretary stated that providing

prompt treatment to those injured in road accidents is paramount. Under the Prime Minister’s Relief Scheme, the injured are treated cashlessly in hospitals. He directed officials from the Health Department, Home Affairs, Police, Transport, and District Administration to work in coordination with sensitivity. It was reported at the meeting that 282 road accident victims have been registered for treatment under the scheme so far. The Chief Secretary reviewed the scheme’s implementation in detail and urged for its further effectiveness. Present  
at the meeting were Mr. S. Prakash, Secretary and Commissioner of the Transport Department, Ms. R. Sangeeta, Secretary of the Urban Administration Department, and senior officials from the police, National Highway Authority of India, National Highways, Public Works Department, and other related departments.
