Deputy Chief Minister and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Shri Arun Saw today gave information about the works, activities, achievements and future action plans of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department in a press conference. He informed in the press conference held at Chhattisgarh Samvad Auditorium in Nava Raipur that in order to create a better environment for sports in Chhattisgarh, strengthen sports infrastructure, encourage women players and identify sports talent, a provision of Rs 100 crore has been made for the Chief Minister Sports Excellence Mission in the current financial year 2026-27. A budget provision of Rs 57 crore has been made under the Chhattisgarh Sports Promotion Scheme. Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare Department Shri Yashwant Kumar and Deputy Director Smt. Rashmi Thakur were also present in the press conference.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sawh stated at a press conference that preparations are underway to organize a hockey league in the state. Fourteen coaches have been sent to Patiala for training to provide high-level training at the state’s sports academies. He added that to ensure smooth conduct of sports activities, the state government has created sports officer positions in six new districts: Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagadh-Chowki, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, and Sakti. For the effective implementation of departmental schemes, recruitment is underway for 44 coaches, four district sports officers, 23 assistant grade-3 officers, and eight wardens.

Mr. Saw informed that the government is actively and seriously working to ensure that more and more children and youth reach the sports fields in the state. The Sports and Youth Welfare Department, which had a budget of only Rs 4 crore at the time of the formation of Chhattisgarh state, has now reached Rs 304 crore in the current financial year 2026-27. In an innovative initiative to connect remote tribal forest areas with the mainstream of sports, along with organizing Bastar Olympics for the last two years, Surguja Olympics has also been started in the state from this year. The excellent hosting of the country’s first Khelo India Tribal Games has established Chhattisgarh on the sports map of the country.
