Administrative coordination takes a toll on malnutrition

  • In Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, the lives of 88 children were brightened by the ‘Chief Minister’s Child Reference Scheme’.

Strong administrative coordination and inter-departmental coordination prove to be the most powerful tool in addressing the serious problem of malnutrition, ensuring that the true benefits of schemes reach needy children and mothers at the grassroots level. The laps of mothers in the Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district now reflect not only love but also the assurance of their children’s better health. A campaign launched by the Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district administration against malnutrition is now bearing fruit at the grassroots level. Under the able guidance of the Collector and the continuous efforts of the Women and Child Development Department, 88 children from 175 Anganwadi centers in the district have emerged from the darkness of malnutrition and have joined the fully ‘well-nourished’ category.

  • Perfect combination of technology and ground data

This success is not the result of coincidence, but of a well-planned strategy. The campaign began in June 2026 with a thorough analysis of data from the ‘Poshan Tracker App’. Based on the data, approximately 200 Anganwadi centers in the district were identified, which, after verification by field supervisors, were reduced to 175 sensitive centers. District-level officials were given direct responsibility for these centers to ensure regular health, nutrition, and follow-up of children. Meanwhile, the Red Cross Society was entrusted with the special care of the 15 centers with the highest number of malnourished children.

  •  From NRC to ‘Saas-Bahu Sammelan’: A dual strategy of treatment and awareness

The campaign was not limited to mere paperwork, but was given a multifaceted dimension. Severely malnourished children were immediately identified and sent to Nutrition Rehabilitation Centers (NRCs), where they received medical care. Additionally, “Child Reference Camps” were held at various locations to screen children, provide medications and counseling to treat serious problems like anemia. The administration was well aware that the real fight against malnutrition begins in the kitchen. Therefore, “Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Conferences” were designed to change the mindset of women in the family. Through these conferences, mothers and elderly women were directly connected to the campaign, explaining the importance of proper diet, hygiene, and nutrition for children.

  • Unwavering determination to make every child healthy

These results, which emerged by July 2026, demonstrate that when the district administration, health staff, Anganwadi workers, and families work together, even a formidable challenge like malnutrition can be overcome. The well-nourished 88 children are not just a statistic, but a strong foundation for the district’s bright and healthy future. The administration’s clear goal is that this fight against malnutrition will continue until every child in the district is fully healthy and well-nourished.
